Giving It Another Go
Like most well meaning Americans, I take some time at the end of each year to contemplate how I could change for the better in the coming year.
Most of us make these New Years Resolutions knowing full well that we cannot, and thus will not, meet these objectives we set for ourselves, because we are not yet truly willing to take the basic actions required to do the damn things.
2023 was different for me though, coming off of what felt like the lowest point I'd experienced in my life thus far, and painfully aware of the possibility of finding myself dragged into the even deeper trench of despair which loomed before me, I decided to eye a different horizon than usual.
In years past I'd typically make resolutions which revolved around something of material value, either a sales goal or some large purchase I wanted to make, which when you're self employed is really just another sales goal. Except for 2016 (maybe it was 2017), when I resolved to change the way my hair was cut for the first time since I was like 9 years old, but that's a whole other story.
For 2024 I made 2 New Years Resolutions:
- Walk the same number of miles each day as the number of the present month in the year.
- Publish something subpar each day.
I've done better than I believed possible with the walking and it has undoubtedly changed my year for the better. The publishing hasn't gone as well, but I'm giving it another go.
